On the way home from New York Gatsby makes the mistake of allowing Daisy to drive the car. When they are passing the car shop Myrtle runs out to try and stop them and gets hit by the car and dies instantly. Daisy, in panic, speeds up and drives away before anyone sees them.
a. Wilson's reaction to the hit and run was that he got pretty mad and depressed; after all it was his wife who had just gotten killed. His initial reaction was shock since he could not believe it. After his shock passed over he became enraged at the fact that someone killed his wife. That is when he decided to go out, find the murderer, and kill him.
b. Tom's reaction was similar to Wilson's in that he too became saddened by Myrtle's death and he also got mad. Although Tom did get mad, he did not pursue the murderer as Wilson did. Instead Tom suffered his pains, got over it, and went back home to his wife. After getting to his wife, Tom and Daisy decided to take off on a vacation to be far from the incident.
c. The reaction Nick had was not nearly as strong as Wilson's and Tom's. Since Nick wasn't as involved as everyone else in the incident, he didn't care on a personal level. Of course he feels sorry that someone was killed but he cares more about what will happen to Gatsby and Daisy.
d. Like Nick, Gatsby's reaction was careless to the person Daisy had hit. Gatsby cared more that it had been Daisy that killed the lady and he was worried for her and for himself. Little did he know he would have to pay for what Daisy did.

I agree with most of Kristeena's points, and her description was accurate in that Daisy, at first, tried to avoid Myrtle, but realizes if she does she'll hit the car comming towards her. Wilson was so shaken up at the thought of the accident, that he practically looses his mind and wants to get revenge. Tom's first reaction was similar to Wilsons, but then he just wants to save himself, as he thinks that Wilson might try to kill him since he was driving Gatsby's car earlier and he blames the whole thing on Gatsby, even though it was Daisy who did it. Nick's reaction towards Myrtle's death is careless and he wants to make sure that Gatsby and Daisy are alright. Finally, Gatsby could not care less about Mrytle, and wanted to make sure that Tom wasn't going to do anything to Daisy, he say's he'll take full responsability for Daisy's actions, and in the end he does.

On the way home from New York Tom notices a commotion at Wilson’s place and finds out that Myrtle had died from a car accident. Wilson’s reaction was one of anger and desperation as he wanted to find the person who was driving. He later kills Gatsby. Tom’s reaction was one of anger like that of Wilson. He was angry because he knew Gatsby was the one driving but he also felt that Gatsby was a coward for he hadn’t stopped the car. Nick was rather indifferent towards the event. He rather felt worried for Gatsby when he finds out Daisy was the one driving and Gatsby was taking the blame. Finally, Gatsby’s reaction was similar with Nick’s. He was worried but worried about Daisy. He decided to take the blame and wait in front of her house to see if Daisy was fine.

I agree with what Kristeena described in what happens on the way home from New York, but I disagree with some people's reactions she put. I think Wilson had a stronger and deeper reaction. He was shocked and traumatized; he had already planned to buy a house in the West to happily live with Myrtle, but she gets killed. His dream is completely destroyed. In addition, I don't think Tom's reaction was similar to Wilson's. I don't think Tom was sad about Myrtle's death, but just surprised. By the way he gets nervous when a man says it was a yellow car that killed Myrtle instantly, it shows that Tom is more concern of Wilson not finding out he was having a love affair with his wife than of Myrtle's death.

The characters find out about Myrtle's death on their way back home from New York. Everyone felt somekind of negative feelings by the sight of it; however each one's reaction differed from others:
A) George Wilson's reaction was somewhat gloomy, silent, but full of wrath inside his heart. At the first sight, he was shocked by the death of his wife; however, he filled with rage when he recovered some sense into himself.
B) Tom Buchanan's reactions was a bit volatile. He first felt sadness through him at the sight of his lover's corpse; however, he managed to change quickly and suppress the pain, which was fast because Tom returned back to his wife soon.
C) Although Nick also felt some remorse about the death, it was not even close to Wilson's or Tom's first reaction. I would say that he felt sorry as another human's death, not as a known person's one.
D) Mr. Gatsby's reaction must have been the most indifferent one among the four. As his only cared about Daisy's welfare, he didn't care much if Myrtle was killed or not, only that Daisy wouldn't be harmed by the case.
